Ditty does not collect anything. It has no account, no analytics, no advertising, no crash reporting and no network permission. Nothing you do in the app leaves your phone, because the app has no way to send it anywhere.

What the app stores, and where

Everything Ditty keeps is stored locally on your device, in the app's own private storage, and is deleted when you uninstall the app:

WhatWhy
Which characters you have learned, and how wellTo decide what to teach next and when to revise it
Your best drill speedTo show you whether you are improving
Your settings — speed, sidetone, haptics, flashSo the key feels the same next time you open it

None of this is transmitted, backed up to us, or shared with anyone. There is no “us” to transmit it to: Ditty has no server.

Permissions, and exactly what each is for

Microphone (RECORD_AUDIO)

Used only by the Listen screen, and only while that screen is open and you have pressed “Start listening”. Audio is analysed in memory to detect the pitch and rhythm of a morse tone and is never recorded, saved, or sent anywhere. Closing the screen releases the microphone immediately. The app asks for this permission at the moment you first use the feature, and the rest of the app works without granting it.

Vibration (VIBRATE)

Used to make the key buzz under your finger and to let morse be felt as well as heard.

Camera flash

The Signal lamp flashes the camera light. This uses Android's torch control, which deliberately sits outside the camera permission model, so Ditty does not request camera permission and cannot see through your camera. It can only switch the lamp on and off.

Ditty declares no internet permission. This is verifiable: the app's manifest lists only VIBRATE and RECORD_AUDIO, and an Android app cannot open a network connection without INTERNET.

The keyboard

Ditty can be enabled as a system keyboard. Android shows a warning when you do this for any keyboard, because a keyboard can in principle see what you type. For the record:

Children

Ditty is suitable for all ages. It collects no personal information from anyone, including children.

Changes to this policy

If a future version of Ditty adds accounts or messaging, this policy will be updated before that version is published, and the change will be described here rather than quietly applied.

Questions about this policy can be sent to the developer through the app's listing on Google Play.
